The Torrent of Interent Information and Restricting Access

This is a commonly used argument for restricting access, utilizing resources that will curate information for our selves or our students. The trouble with these kinds of metaphors is that people start to actually immagine that the interent is a fire hydrant and that it is “impossible” to find the information you want to “drink”. Yes there is a lot of information, but we all can be taught skills that allow us to dip into the stream and get just what we need. Just like a fireman or a plumber have tools that enable them to modify a fire hydrant’s stream to get a drink, we need to know the skills to modify the interent to meet our needs.
